     
There are many, many, different testing methods and options available for today's employers.
However, NOT ALL TESTING METHODS ARE CREATED EQUAL!

The simple fact that they may be "F.D.A. Approved" , follow "SAMHSA Cut-Offs", are "C.L.I.A. Waived" or are "C.A.P. Certified", does NOT make them a "better" testing choice. LAB BASED TESTING:
    
Laboratory based testing is the most reliable and accurate type of testing available. Unlike "Instant" or "Point of Collection Testing" devices, lab based testing is actually conducted in a "Federally Certified Laboratory", staffed with Doctorate level professionals, such as Toxicologists, Certifying Scientists, Medical Doctors and others who can actually testify, in court, as to the accuracy and reliability of the science and chain of custody behind each test it performs. In addition, the SAMHSA/DHHS certified lab has the full capacity to ensure all samples tested are genuine human samples and have NOT been adulterated, substituted or diluted. Finally, SAMHSA/DHHS certified labs, like those used at CAL-TEST, will automatically confirm any of its findings using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). This "gold standard" for confirmation testing will eliminate any and all "over the counter" medications or foods, then will only identify those medications or illegal drugs that your employee or applicant is currently abusing!
Laboratory based testing, confirmed via GC/MS, is 99.8% accurate at identifying drug abuse at or above the cut-off (+/- .02% at cut-off).

INSTANT Testing Devices:
     
These devices were initially designed for the drug rehabilitation market, probation and parole offices. They were only intended to identify HEAVY drug users and not look for those employees who may have just started using Illegal drugs or who are lite users. In addition, these devices were designed for the urine sample to be collected under "Same-Sex" DIRECT OBSERVATION, because they did not have a reliable method of finding people who tamper with the sample or try to "clean-up" prior to testing.
The biggest problem with these low cost devices are their inability to detect low level users and their ability to MISS current users!
For example, you may have a job applicant apply for your Company who has used Methamphetamine two days ago and his current drug level, at the time of instant testing, is 1,495ng/ml for the presence of "speed". Of course, with the Instant Test's margin of error of +/- 50% at the cut-off, this guy's test is reported as "Negative" (Drug-Free), so based on this erroneous test result YOU HIRE HIM! You just saved yourself a few bucks, choosing to use this cheaper test..or did you really?
A few weeks later, after you've paid to hire and train this guy, he gets involved in an accident with your Company vehicle, killing a Pedestrian! The investigating Police Officer arrests your employee for D.U.I.-Drugs and discovers your employee has been using "Speed", even before you hired him!
NOW WHAT? Who is going to be dragged into court? Who is going to be sued? Who is going to pay for the wrongful death litigation? Who's is liable for this negligent hiring practice?

The manufacture of these devices have provided the "package insert" within each and every box of these devices, which clearly shows how "inaccurate" these devices really are and you were "negligent" in using these devices without checking their "Accuracy" and "Reliability" first!
Of course, everyone will get sued, but who will ultimatley LOSE? Please check with your Attorney on this, before you consider using these instant testing devices. CAL-TEST offers them, but does NOT recommend thier use. These tests should NEVER be used in place of DHHS/SAMSHA certified lab-based testing!
